Last night Rangers Tax Case won the George Orwell blogging prize.
I was at the ceremony shouting for also shortlisted superb legal blog of Milly Moo – but there can be no doubt that Rangers Tax Case is a worthy winner.
The blog singlehandedly took a scandal, which was not being covered at all by the cosy and incestuous Scottish media, and provided a detailed and shocking account of serious irregularities and blatant misconduct.
It has been an awesome blogging achievement.
Someone once said that “news is what somebody somewhere wants to suppress; all the rest is advertising”.
In that way, Rangers Tax Case has proved itself to be a first rate provider of news.
But it has also shown that the best independent blogging puts into the public domain what somebody somewhere does not want in the mainstream media.
